Power stations, residual heat, district heating. Combined Heat & Power: good for the environment.
A large amount of residual heat is created when generating electrical energy in power stations. Generating one kilowatt of electricity produces nearly two kilowatts of residual heat. It is often impossible to use the residual heat in the station itself. More often than not it is discharged unused into the environment. A possible solution might be to use the residual heat for neighbouring usage. This kills two birds with one stone: it improves the efficiency of the power station and reduces the strain/stress/load on the environment.
